The Pillow Parade
on World Sleep Day
Wake Up to the Power of Sleep!
Chennai, 14 March 2025: In a pioneering effort to highlight the importance of sleep health, Apollo Specialty Hospital, Vanagaram organised India’s first sleep chain at the Vanagaram junction today. This unique initiative, held to commemorate World Sleep Day 2025 and its theme “Make Sleep Health a Priority,” brought together doctors & nurses, to form a symbolic chain while holding pillows inscribed with messages on the importance of sleep.

With over 60% of Indians suffering from poor sleep quality, the sleep chain serves as a powerful reminder that sleep is not a luxury but a biological necessity. It also seeks to raise awareness that poor sleep is linked to heart disease, diabetes, weakened immunity and mental health disorders. It drives home the point that small but crucial lifestyle changes such as consistent sleep schedules, reduced screen time and seeking medical help can help address sleep disorders.
Commander Dr. Karthik Madesh, HOD & Clinic Head, Institute of Sleep Health, Apollo Speciality Hospitals-Vanagaram said, “This initiative is our way of reminding the public that good sleep is critical to good health. Sleep is as important as diet and exercise for a healthy life. The sleep chain aims to symbolise unity and collective responsibility in promoting sleep health and addressing sleep-related challenges. It also reinforces the idea that the right lifestyle changes can make a difference to sleep health and create a positive ripple effect in society.”
Dr Prabhash Prabhakaran, HOD & Senior Consultant, Neurology said that, “Sleep is a fundamental pillar of health, yet its significance is often underestimated. Initiatives such as the Sleep Chain by Apollo Specialty Hospital play a vital role in emphasizing that sleep is not merely a lifestyle choice but a biological necessity. By raising awareness about sleep disorders and advocating for healthy sleep practices, we can contribute to a healthier society. I commend Apollo Specialty Hospital for its commitment to this critical aspect of public health and for leading efforts to promote sleep wellness among communities.”
The event was graced by distinguished experts such as Dr. Mohanakrishnan – Consultant, Pulmonology and Dr Rahul Raghav Menon, CEO & DMS, Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Vanagaram, Thiru NEK Murthy, Chairman of Thiruverkadu Municipality
Apollo Specialty Hospital is also home to the Institute of Sleep Health, a dedicated centre for diagnosing and treating sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, insomnia, and narcolepsy.
