ALERT in Association with Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) – Tamil Nadu creates awareness on First Aid and Emergency Response to students in IIT Madras

Chennai, 13 September 2025: On World First Aid Day, the second Saturday of September, as a significant step towards empowering the communities in emergency first response, ALERT in association with IRCS -TN created awareness on First Aid and Emergency Response to the students in IIT Madras.

The program was inaugurated by Justice M Jaichandran, Vice president and Chairman of IRCS TN branch. Addressing the students, Justice, M Jaichandran talked about the Good Samaritan Law in India that protects the first responders who come forward to help the victims in medical emergencies. He urged the students equip themselves with life saving skills and get trained in disaster management, to support the community in the time of natural calamities and disasters like flood.

Mr. V M Muralidharan, Chairman – ALERT spoke about the goal of ALERT given by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam to empower one in every family in emergency care and the need for local volunteers. Explaining the intent of establishing ALERT Golden Army clubs in educational institutions to harness the strength of student community to get trained in emergency response and become warriors who are ready to act in the Golden Hour, he said, IIT Madras can become a role model by becoming 100% trained in emergency response, empowering all its students and staff in being ready to help themselves and the community in times of need. Mr. Muralidharan requested each student to become a champion to create awareness on the need to get trained in first aid and emergency response.

Justice M Jaichandran and Mr. V M Muralidharan, thanked Dr. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras for enabling ALERT and IRCS to conduct these programs for the students and faculty in IIT Madras and supporting to the cause of saving lives.

Mr. Vedavyas – General secretary- IRCS TN branch was part of the inauguration, and the training was conducted by trainers from ALERT and IRCS-TN.
