FEfundinfo Unveils 10-Foot Fish-Shaped Dustbin to Fight Plastic Pollution at Besant NagarBeach !

Chennai, July 5 – In a creative push to combat plastic waste, FEfundinfo launched a 10-foot
Fish-Shaped Dustbin at Schmidt Memorial, Besant Nagar Beach, as part of its CSR initiative
aligned with the UN’s Environment Month theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution.”
The launch event was graced by Mr. Sumesh Soman, IFS Officer & Mission Director of
TNSHORE, Mr. Hafiz Khan, Environmental Advocate, and Mr. Vinod, CSR Program
Coordinator from FEfundinfo, along with 30+ employee volunteers.
The project was carried out with the guidance and support of the Greater Chennai
Corporation – South Zone (GCC South Zone), in association with the Tamil Nadu Forest
Department, and was executed in collaboration with Communitree, a nature-positive
movement working towards environmental restoration and public engagement.
Mr. Sumesh Soman, IFS, shared,
“Our oceans and beaches are already burdened with millions of tonnes of plastic garbage.
Waste collection and segregation is a humongous challenge that our government and local
bodies take up daily. Our every little effort matters. Let us be the change! I congratulate
Communitree on this noble initiative 💐💐💐”
Mr. Vinod remarked, “This fish-shaped bin is more than functional — it’s a public reminder
that what we discard can harm what we cherish. It supports our vision to make sustainability
accessible and visible.”
Mr. Hafiz Khan added, “Studies show that humans may unknowingly ingest up to 0.005
grams of plastic every year through seafood. This bin, shaped like a fish, is a visual reminder
— let’s stop feeding plastic to the ocean before it ends up on our own plates.”
About the Installation – FishnBin:
Size: 10 feet tall, 6 feet wide
Design: Plastic enters through the mouth; back gate for waste collection
Material: Welded steel mesh with rust-resistant car-grade paint
Weight: Over 300 kg
This project blends art, functionality, and awareness — encouraging beachgoers to act
responsibly and think sustainably
